Before you play an online escape room
What gear do I need?
A big screen and a phone each. The big screen can be a laptop connected to the TV (HDMI cable or screen mirroring), a recent phone mirrored to the TV (AirPlay on iPhone, Smart View or Cast on Android), or simply a laptop. You need an up-to-date browser and an internet connection. A smart TV's browser often makes the 3D stutter: plug in a laptop instead, or mirror a phone to it.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Everything happens in the browser. Players join the game by scanning a QR code or typing a four-letter code.
Do I need an account to play?
For the first room, no: no account and no credit card. Buying the game doesn't need one either: the person who hosts the game just enters their email address at checkout, and the game is attached to it. The other players need nothing.
What age is it suitable for?
We recommend After Hours at the Museum for ages 12 and up. It's a detective story with no graphic violence, but it's set at night, the mood is dark and some puzzles call for reading and logic. A younger child can take part on a team with an adult.
How long does a game last?
1.5 to 2 hours for After Hours at the Museum. The time varies with the team, the level you pick and how many hints you ask for.
How many players do I need?
One to four players. Each player has their own phone. With more than four people, nothing stops spectators from searching with the team in front of the TV, but only four players can join the game with a phone.
During the game
Can I play solo?
Yes. A solo player gets all four roles on their phone and switches between them. It's a quieter experience (talking it through is half the fun), but you still get the whole case.
Can two of us play?
Yes. With two players, each takes two roles. It's a good format for a couple or a parent and a teenager.
Can we play remotely, each from home?
Yes. Choose "Play remotely" at launch: each player sees the videos on their own screen, keeps their phone for their clues, and you talk over the voice or video call of your choice.
What happens if we get stuck?
Every puzzle offers three hints, from the vaguest to the most precise. Each hint adds time to the clock. On the Visitor level, the museum guard also steps in without being asked.
Can we take a break and pick it up later?
Yes. A game you have started stays saved for 30 days. On the same device, the home page offers to pick up where you left off.
Are the videos subtitled?
The scenes with Marcel, the guard, are subtitled in large text that is easy to read from the couch. The instructions for each puzzle also appear in writing on the TV and on the phones.

Is Escape & Chill legit?
Yes. Escape & Chill is made in France by Rémi Bouvant, a web developer based in Gardanne, near Marseille, and published by his registered sole proprietorship (French business ID SIRET 904 286 713 00014), known as Victoire Digital. There is nothing to ship: the game opens in your browser right after you buy it. Payment goes through Stripe (credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay) and the invoice is emailed to you. The first room is free, with no account and no credit card, so you can try before you pay. Questions? Get in touch through the Contact page and we'll reply by email. Access, warranty and refunds are covered in the terms of sale.
How much does a game cost?
After Hours at the Museum costs €9.99 (launch price until October 31, then €12.99), paid once by the person who hosts the game. The other players join for free. The first room can be played for free.
Can we replay it?
Yes, as many times as you like: the game stays in your account. It's handy for introducing other groups to it or trying the other ending.
Can I get a refund?
By paying, you ask for immediate access to the game and give up your 14-day right of withdrawal, as EU consumer law allows for digital content. That's why the first room is free. If the game doesn't work as advertised, the legal guarantee of conformity applies and we will help you until the problem is solved, or refund you if it can't be fixed.
How does my account work?
There's nothing to set up: the game you buy is attached to the email address you enter at checkout. To get back to it, you log in with a link sent by email: no password needed (you can pick one if you prefer).
Do you have an offer for companies?
Yes. For team building, an offsite or a group of several teams, we prepare a quote. All the information is on the team building page.
Personal data
What data do you collect?
The account email address, the first name or nickname entered to play, game results (times, hints, team name if you publish your score) and payment status. Card data is handled by Stripe and never reaches us.
Do you use advertising cookies?
No. The site uses what it needs to work (keeping you logged in, remembering games in progress on your device) and, only if you agree, an anonymous recording of visits (clicks and scrolling) to see what trips people up. No ads. Details are in the privacy policy.
